Free Airport Shuttle

1. Is the airport shuttle really free?

While some hotels offer a 24 hour-7 days a week free service for guests, others have limited hours and charge a small fee per person. The Commodore Hotel near Christchurch Airport offers a free shuttle service that is 100% complimentary for all staying guests. No hidden fees, no extra charges, just easy travel, included in your stay.

2. What are the shuttle hours?

Some shuttles may not run on public holidays or when the office is closed; it pays to check this, so you don’t run into any delays. The Commodore Hotel shuttle runs 24/7, every day of the year. Whether you’re catching a red-eye or arriving on a midnight flight, we’ve got you covered (we have two shuttles and are a two minute drive from the airport, so if one is at the hotel or airport, you won’t have to wait long).

3. Do I need to book the shuttle in advance?

Yes, we do recommend booking ahead to avoid delays, especially during busy flight windows. Provide your flight details to your shuttle service when booking your room, or you can call reception to confirm you’ve landed.

4. Where does the shuttle pick up and drop off?

Most shuttles will pick you up or collect you directly from the domestic terminal pick up building, and drop you off at reception, or vice versa when you're heading to the airport. At The Commodore, simply call 03 358 8129 and dial 1 to book a Christchurch Airport pickup. Wait for us next to door 1 (Regional departures).

5. How long does the trip take?

Shuttle providers are generally within 3km of the airport so may take 5-10 minutes. The Commodore Hotel is located just 1.5km from Christchurch Airport, so your transfer will take between 2 to 5 minutes, depending on traffic, but we suggest allowing 10 minutes.

6. Can I bring all my luggage?

Shuttles in Christchurch are generally large vans that can handle standard luggage, ski gear, golf bags, and backpacks. If you’re unsure about oversized items, call ahead to check and confirm. The Commodore’s two larger shuttles accommodate ski luggage.

7. Is the shuttle shared with other guests?

At the Commodore Hotel, this depends on whether we have other guests on the same flight or if you are travelling as a family, business or sports group. Shuttles may be a shared service, which helps keep things moving smoothly while being mindful of all guests' flight schedules.

8. Does the shuttle run to both terminals?

Our drop off point is the domestic terminal, which is probably 70 metres from the international terminal.

9. Is it wheelchair accessible?

Most shuttles are mobility-friendly, although if you have particular concerns, it pays to check. At the Commodore Airport Hotel, we’re proud to support travellers of all abilities. Our main shuttles don’t have a wheelchair ramp but we do have another smaller one that is wheelchair compatible upon request.

10. Will you pick me up from the airport too?

Yes. Complimentary hotel guest shuttles services works both ways, pick you up or drop you off, whichever suits your journey.

11. How many people can travel at once?

While exact numbers vary, most airport hotel shuttles in Christchurch are vans with space for 6 - 8 passengers. If you're travelling with a group, let us know ahead of time so we can accommodate everyone comfortably. At the Commodore Airport Hotel our two big shuttles can accommodate 11 passengers, and we have a smaller one that holds 7.

12. Can non-hotel guests use the shuttle?

Free hotel shuttles are usually reserved for registered guests only, to ensure the best possible service to those staying with them. At The Commodore Hotel, our shuttles are also available to conference attendees and restaurant guests.

13. Can I use the shuttle to get to other places in Christchurch?

At the Commodore, guests are able to use the shuttle to go to locations within a 5 min radius from hotel. For bigger groups, we are happy to pre-arrange a transfer to major venues.
